David Hockney is an English 'Pop' artist, though he never acceptable this claim. Born in Bradford on July 9, 1937, David Hockney is the most publicized, recognized English artist of the twentieth century, after the Second World War. His success is credited to his ingenious paintings and exuberant personality.
Presently based at Yorkshire, Uk, David Hockney first studied at the Bradford College of Art and then the Royal College of Art, London. His experiments with art began since his college days. Initially an 'Abstract' painter, the artist soon abandoned it, as he found it a dull style. Venturing later into figurative paintings, he additional revolutionized them by adding words to them. During this era, there was a sudden outburst of 'British Pop Art' and David Hockney became a part of this movement. He admired most of his contemporaries, especially Francis Bacon, whose works influenced Hockney to use 'Expressionism.' In 1963, the artist traveled to New York, where others' artworks inspired him and he also made friends with Andy Warhol. Between 1970 and 1986, Hockney tried his hands at photography. Themed on intriguing subjects, he formed a photomontage of them titled, "The Joiners." This 'Cubist' style of photography helped him learn the art of depicting a field straight through manifold viewpoints. His most preponderant works of those times are "Pearblossom Highway #2," "Kasmin, 1982," and "My Mother, Bolton Abbey, 1982." David in December 1985 designed the cover of the preponderant French magazine Vogue. The artist was made the Companion of Honor in 1997. His recent painting, "A Bigger Grand Canyon, (1998)" was sold to the National Gallery of Australia for a narrative of .6 million. Inspired by Hockney's work, Jack Hazan, a filmmaker, made a biographical film, "A Bigger Splash," on the artist.
Owing to his brilliant art, printing, and photography, David Hockney is extremely regarded by art critics, admirers, and his contemporaries. His paintings always depict his personal emotions and this unique ability instantly connects with his audience. Most of his work is now exhibited in Salts Mill in Saltaire, near Bradford.
